nless you’ve been living under a rock in recent weeks, the chances are that you would be aware of the messy split between Sony and Disney as they argue how much money each of them should get, with Sony lending the Spider-Man license to Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. If this never gets resolved, it’s a massive blow to fans of the movie franchise, especially as Peter Parker has been so heavily invested in the future of the MCU, even more so following the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame.
Unfortunately, a amicable resolution continues to look less likely, that’s according to Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra. When speaking to Variety, Vinciquerra has been quoted saying “for the moment, the door is closed.” However, he did also imply that a resolution is not impossible by stating that “it’s a long life” and he added that there is “no ill will” between Sony and Disney/Marvel, so there is always time on our side for the resolution that fans are desperate for.

Kevin Feige has been a leading figure in the success of the MCU, but Vinciquerra said that Feige was being “stretched incredibly thin” with his duties, which potentially restricted his involvement with future Spider-Man movies.
What the future truly holds for the future of the Spider-Man in the cinematic universe remains to be seen, but I think most of us can agree that we just want a fair resolution as quickly as possible, because it’s the fans that will inevitable suffer, not the kingpins of Hollywood.
If we don’t get a resolve, hopefully the success of the MCU can inspire Sony to build upon the groundwork and continue to deliver the movies we deserve, whether or not Spider-Man continues to feature in the MCI or whether he and Venom eventually share the same cinematic universe to erase those memories of Spider-Man 3. But if all else fails, at least we have a sequel to the brilliant Into the Spider-Verse to look forward to.
