Valve's Gabe Newell has said the studio was working on a tablet version of arena-based multiplayer title DotA 2, but the experiment was a failure.
Speaking to Kotaku, Newell indicated that, from a hardware perspective, current-generation tablets are not powerful enough to run the game."We were working on getting Dota 2 running on some tablets," revealed Newell. "That ended up being kind of a disappointment."
"But the good news is that tablets are getting faster very quickly, so I think we'll get the kind of performance we want and other game developers want in the near future."
Valve's Steam platform recently hit a new milestone by logging over six million concurrent users. The figure has been attributed to the popular Autumn Sale and the ongoing DotA 2 beta, which peaked at 170,248 players.
DotA has also been incredibly popular for Valve. Last month it released a documentary featuring interviews with the 16 teams who competed in a high-stakes tournament.
